Over 3 billion people on earth burn charcoal and wood to cook food and warm their homes. Two million people die from unsafe emissions every year, it causes climate-changing pollution, burns so much wood that some people spend their entire lives trying to find wood, leads to deforestation, and can destroy habitat for organisms including large apes. However, the efficient biomass stove movement is trying to improve this by developing methods of burning wood and charcoal that burn cleaner and need less fuel. The goal of our GAP group was to investigate efficient biomass stoves, research factors that can improve efficiency, and connect with students around the world who are doing the same work.
